It's cute that it's a known issue, but "disable 2FA" should not be considered an acceptable approach. It is a workaround for bug in the NFC Ring app, and needs to be addressed promptly. Aside from the brief and minor security interruption, it requires re-authenticating with all applications that use your Google sign-in, which is a tremendous usability failure.

RE: Unlock app improvements list
[BUG]: The Unlock app does not prevent the user from interacting with the phone while it is "locked." For an easy demonstration, lock your phone while on the home screen, wake the screen, and hold the Recent Apps button (or Menu button, depending on your hardware). While the screen will not update, once unlocked, you will see that the Google Now app has in fact opened.
[BUG]: The "lock screen" does not immediately render when the phone is woken. If any other interface was previously on-screen (if the sceen was not turned off from the NFC Lock Screen itself), the previous screen is briefly visible. At a bare minimum, this could allow an attacker access to anything on screen. Additionally, it looks bad. Gs3 (SGH-i747) running Android 4.4.2.
[FEATURE REQUEST]: A basic clock for the lockscreen would be nice.
[FEATURE REQUEST]: Rather than or in addition to the provided stickers, I would like the option to render my phone's NFC heat-map (as seen in NFC Ring Control) as a background for the lock screen.
Additionally, backing the call for a non-aural feedback to unsuccessful ring reads. In fact, any additional feedback for the unlock process would be an improvement.

RE: NFC Ring Unlock app troubleshooting and important information
I had been aware that Google's 2FA offered alternative one-time codes for legacy apps. However, it has been more than a year since I'd encountered an app incompatible with 2FA, so I'd completely forgotten about it.
The suggestion to "simply enable the PIN" is appreciated, and not entirely incorrect, but the setup for the ring was not well-directed, and I found myself locked out of my phone and needing my Google login prior to setting up said PIN.

RE: Invalid Credentials - can't unlock ??
Hey folks. Just got my ring and faced this issue - and solved it.
The app is automatically failing login attempts from Google accounts with 2-factor authentication enabled. Rather than properly allowing the user the enter the necessary code, the NFC just fails altogether. I was only able to unlock with my Gmail credentials after disabling 2FA for my entire Google account. Having done so, I am reenabling it immediately, and sincerely hope I do not need to take this step again before you update.
