NO GO Unlocking
-
I deleted the ring and added it again and still no joy, this is now irking me.
I was looking forward to using this ring and I am now at my wits end with it.
As I mentioned tapunlock works so why can't the app that is only available to those with the genuine rings not, seems like a real farce to me? -
Hmm... it's really difficult to help if you give me so spare information.
What is exactly the problem? is the NFC unlock screen not showed? id your default unlock screen displayed? is the NFC not recognized (sound)? is the app just not unlocking but gets displayed?
Help me a bit to find you problem -
Just to reiterate - state the steps you took to register your ring as the key to unlock the app, and what settings you chose from the unlock app. Also useful would be what actually isn't working: the app unlock doesn't appear when you expect the phone to be locked, or it appears but you don't get a read from the ring, or something else entirely different.
Details may help you solve your problem. And yes, the lack of a single, complete, easy to follow idiot-proof guide that is also easy to find is annoying.

I have disabled my normal unlock method and installed the app as suggested, installed the the key i.e added the ring to the app and gone through all of the steps Lokki says.
when the screen is off I press the power button and all I see is the normal screen to swipe the padlock at the bottom up to unlock the screen and there is no sign of the NFC unlock screen.
I swipe the padlock up and the phone is unlocked not even the slightest sign that the unlock app is working. "id your default unlock screen displayed?" what does that mean exactly???
The phone detects the ring both public and private sides and makes the recognised noise.
I registered the ring as per the instructions given ie email and password I then had to reset my password as the app did not recognise it after resetting the app recognised the password and let me in.
This is turning into a can of worms that I really wished I had never opened why is nothing ever FXXXing simple and yes you are quite right a laymans guide would be a huge bonus were not all PC wizards perhaps John might want to look into that one SOONER rather than later.Sorry for the rant but as you can most probably tell I am now getting close to putting this down to must have item and might just put it in the microwave to see what happens, I will most probably be bald by the end of the week.

"id your default unlock screen displayed?" what does that mean exactly???It means your normal screen - the one you just described.
Have you actually enabled the device security in the unlock app? Go to "Device security" and in the top bar will be enable/disable button. -
It says enabled, now do you see why this is winding me up so much?
Every avenue I go down seems to open up that can of worms just a little more. -
The NFC ring unlock is also enabled in the device administrators settings under android security.

Do know what I think I will keep using tapunlock, at least it works and does not make me jump though hoops to get it to work.
Sure it has a few bugs like the screen staying on after a call but they can be ironed out.
Literally 5 minutes after installing it I had it working and it picked up my old Mifare cards where as NFC ring unlock could not so I have a backup for unlocking the phone aswell, I really cannot be on with the grief.
If it wasn't for the good looks of the ring and knowing that it will work at some point It it would be in the return post tomorrow.
We really need a proper idiots guide for installation of this tech as it is still quite new and now not quite so easy to set up. -

Every avenue I go down seems to open up that can of worms just a little more.Does it say 'enabled' or 'enable'? I see the latest version has a new interface for that element which is a step backwards from a previous version.
-
Just had a thought, while writing out a Dummies Guide ... you say you've enabled security, but have you enabled both the tag (Device Security > Manage Keys > [click a key] > Enable=ON) and enabled the app itself (Device Security > top-bar click 'enable' until it says 'disable')
-
@aomega001 if you have the latest version with the little button up top right of the screen that says 'enable', tap it to enable the unlock. it changes to say 'disable' which will disable the unlock if you tap it.
You also have to be sure that your unlock keys are entered into the app and also enabled - you can manually disable keys that way if you lose them or misplace them temporarily.
