ring unlock active without registered ring

Hi

I was soo happy when I saw yesterday my stealth bomber replacement in the post box.

Now you know... murphys law... Cable line was broken yesterday.

From beginning:
I started to configure the ring. started the registering process, but I couldn't create account.
It told me that there is also an account with the mail-address "account@matthiashartmann.ch" (why that? I tried multiple Passwords - not matching).
Afterwards I wanted to check this.
Because I had no internet, I had to use the Android-Chrome.
And didn't find a solution on the phone (didn't search very long).
As I went back to the App. the registering was canceled...

Later, I started the unlock app, but I didn't have a code, so i couldn't proceed.

Yesterday evening my phone was ok. This morning, I recognised that I can unlock my phone with the Standard-PIN.
But after unlocking, the screen is filled with an unlock circle (left side keyboad: login with gmail; right side: ring unlock). But both options are not working. None of my 3 gmail accounts active on the smartphone, no ring detected!

It's also used for business. It's not a catastrophe, all important Data are not stored on phone, all photos, etc are in cloud backup. So I could reset the phone. But would be nice to understand this problem (Accounts in general and logins for nfc-control-app) and what I did wrong.

Thanks for help. I couldn't find anything in the forum that fast (and I should work... not fixing my phone...)

Edit:
I can open notifications, but if I want to open a notification, the unlock is also on top of everything. The mail opened from notifications is read when I go to Gmail on desktop.

Hi Matthias. That certainly does sound like a mess there.
Are you using 2 factor authentication for google sign on? Can you turn that off?
Here is the validation code reset link, use your kickstarter email:

Also, you could try the beta version of the unlock app at http://blog.nfcring.com/dev/be-an-nfc-ring-beta-tester/
If you set that up and use the beta version then you should be able to register the ring with the program and not need the activation code.
Lastly, you may need to request a reset of your account with nfcring which it is telling you is registered, then you'll be able to enter a password.

John has just replied to another thread, it looks like the beta version of the unlock app has already been pushed out and you wont need to sign up as a beta tester to get the version which allows you to register by using your ring. So that's cool, ignore that link!

Ok. I'll try this, if I can use my phone again.
So, you think it's not possible to go without reset?
Don't understand me wrong. no way around is no security gap... ;)

Yup, 2 factor authentication will mess with you, hopefully you can switch that off from your computer, then get into your phone and fix the locking problem!
I'd still hope to not have to reset the phone, I mean that would work but it's not the best solution. Also, shouldn't need the validation code reset I don't think. The app should handle that now by registering the ring to your account with NFCRing under your kickstarter email as an ID. You might need to attempt to sign in to an NFCRing site with that ID and reset the password in order to use that one.

YMMD! you are my hero! :D

Didn't need to deactivate 2-factor. did work with 2-factor app password.
It's working so far :)
Do you think I still need to deactivate. I can live with this more complex logins, if I do not have to login every few days...
What was that login for?
Activating or registering the ring? Or for spying my account ;) haha

Phew! Well that's a relief! I'm extremely glad you were able to get back into your phone again without anything drastic!
I think the next thing you need to do is to register your ring with the unlock app, and that way you're not going to have to go through this again! It'll all be working and no need for computer gymnastics!
The gmail login is just an absolute backup for if you lose the ring or are in a situation where you can't log on with NFC so that's ok/
No spying possible from here mate ;)

So where are you stalled at with ring registration, what's happening when you try to get that done?

ah ok. backup. that's great. was just meant as a joke. today in IT it's all about spying...

Register-process worked with 2factor password.
could create the key in the unlock app and was able to unlock multiple times by ring :)

I think if google login is only needed for backup purposes, I'll go on with 2 factor. If you need a 2factor-tester, here I am ;-)

Now I'll go through forum for tips and tricks and tuning the settings. Still have 2 unlockings. Google by PIN and NFC unlock by Ring...

Excellent, no problem at all - one more thing I'll recommend is that if you aren't able to turn your standard lock screen off in settings then you should use something like 'no lock' to turn it off, it makes the whole experience more fluid-feeling!
